Subject: Field Maintenance Schedule and Instructions
All teams 12u and under will take turns with field maintenance. The maintenance week starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday. So a good time to mow is late on a Sunday (prior to league games for the week) and Friday's before tournament games.
MSA=brown playing surface on our fields.
To do List and
instructions:
Mow inside the fences (playing
area). Note: This may be needed 2x per week here in
the spring. Make sure you shoot the cut grass into the grass, not onto the
warning track or MSA playing surface.
Mow all grass outside the fences. This is max 1x per week, as needed. The practice area is the most important area other than the fields.
Bullpen
upkeep. Rake and
fill in holes. Then water in the fill and tamp it down.
Maintain warning tracks. Spray
with roundup and/or pull weeds. Important to do before they
get too big.
Sweep dugouts.
Rake the warning track between
the dugouts in front of the fence.
Once hot weather hits, we may
need to hit the field with water a few times per week.
Note: Mowing only takes a few
hours. The rest of the to do list is a great team
activity after a home game you may have that week. Get the kids involved. If
you can't do it as a team, you must pay someone to get it done.
After every field usage: LEAVE IT HOW YOU FOUND IT! Take some time to fill in holes (pitchers mound, batters box, sliding area) and water them in. Rake the base bath "long ways". Be careful not to get the MSA into the grass, it forms a lip on the sod and/or kills the grass.
